Mules were preferred over horses in the Southwest. Today, there is a growing interest in saddle mules, especially in the rocky, preciptitous hills of the Southwest. Dick & Sue Kimberley and Steve & Mary Randall of the Rio Grande Mule & Donkey Assoc. show you why mules are so revered and trusted.

Dave Stamey is not only a great cowboy singer and composer, he can also sing about mules from personal experience. He has many miles under his belt as a packer. His song, "Never Kiss a Mule" was written for this film and lends a humorous, but endearing twist to longears.

Porter the dressage mule.
Porter has raised a bit of clamor in the horse world. This 16-hand thoroughbred cross mule competes in second level dressage and beats the horses at their own game. Owner, Audrey Goldsmith shares some proud and humorous insights about competing in this elite world.

Twenty Mule Team. Bob Tanner,
owner of Red's Pack Station in the Sierras and founder of BIshop Mule Days also knows a lot about the twenty-mule teams that carried out the borax from Death Valley.

Ross Knox is a cowboy, poet and an icon in the mule world. He's packed for the Park Service in the Grand Canyon and now in Yosemite Park. Ross and Chris Flanagan can balance the most unwieldy items aboard a mule's back and they offer lots of sage advice.
